The Creative Continuum of Seven ~ May

Today is the Fifth of Seven dates from now through July we will be posting work we made with goodie bags other Bloggers sent us.  Alicia had the idea that we each send out six packages with beads or focals and on the 26th of each month we reveal what we made with a certain participant's package.
I am honored to be in this group of Seven...these ladies are a creative bunch.
Participating in this Event and their Package Month and theme are :

Monique of A Half-Baked Notion  :  January ~ National Gallery of Canada

Moi  :  February ~ Round and Round

Sally of The Studio Sublime  :  March ~ Contrasting Colors

Therese of Therese's Treasures  :  April ~ Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Alicia of All The Pretty Things (and the brains behind this lovely continuing hop :-D )  :  May ~ Seasons

Cynthia of Antiquity Travelers  :  June ~ SomethingOld/SomethingNew/SomethingBorrowed/SomethingBlue

Emma of A Polymer Penchant  :  July ~ not sure if Emma picked a theme but I would say, Beauty!

Alicia, the brains behind this hop, sent out cabs and rounds.  I have worked so much with cabs lately but am woefully uncomfortable doing so.  But I am super proud of what I made here.  I had it completely finished back in February, eagerly awaiting the May reveal.  The whole time I was working on it, this poem kept looping though my head.  It was a comfort and offered guidance and fit the Seasons theme perfectly :

Nothing Gold Can Stay
                         by Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

("Stay gold, Pony Boy.  Stay gold."  who remembers that?!)

Full Frontal of absolutely lovely agate beads and cab.

The rope is chenille stitch.  I made it as a bracelet for the ATTS hop in January, but there wasn't enough there there so I pushed it aside for a undetermined future project.  This wound up being just the right project.  The colors were just the right green/gold understated look I wanted to quietly support the cab.

Netted Bezel.

On the back of the cab, I made a peyote/brick swatch to hook the frontal netting onto.  Worked perfectly!  I will be implementing this technique much more often :-)

Sweet button closure.

Thank you Alicia, for the goods to make this happen...and for the wonderful idea of pulling all seven of us together!

I love this, Christine! How clever to create a backing for the cab! This is such a beautiful and wearable necklace!

Hi Christine,
This piece is gorgeous I believe it is my favorite of your pieces yet. I love the design it is so unique. Your muse knew that the piece of beadwork had a home in the future that is why it was not torn apart.

I so love what you did with the cab, Christine! It's such a novel idea, with the cab safely nested in the rope - absolutely beautiful! The colour mix is perfect too and so is the poem.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Thank you for being part of the Continuum - I can't believe we only have 2 more months to go... I must figure something for the rest of the year :)

I am having a hard time deciding which part of this necklace I love the best: the rope chain (my gosh, I love that!), the setting of the cab on the rope chain, or the back! The back is fabulous!!!

What a beautiful job - and the poem as well!

Love this work, Christine :) The cab so comfortably ensconced in its net of jewels... works for me!

"Stay gold"... OMG The Outsiders, I was a baby when I first read that :)

Christine your idea is very creative and beautiful. I taught chenille stitch at my bead group's annual Demo & Do day. In preparation for this I made lots of pieces to show how versatile the stitch is. One of them was bezeling a cab with it. Your great necklace reminds me of that piece. The peyote brick piece on the back is a very great way to attach it.

Wow! Really outdone yourself this time! The rope is gorgeous and I love how you set the cab.

I'd never read that poem before - love it, too.

I love the clever way you've made this necklace. It's not only a great way to use a cab but such a wonderful design element.

I could actually picture the end of the movie (as I think of it as the movie) as I started to read the poem, so immediately familiar. What a beautiful treat to see that old favourite interpreted as jewelry. Stunning work!

I love how the cab is cradled. And of course the poem is wonderful.

Christine, this is beautiful! The way the agate is cradled in the beaded rope, it gives such a nurturing vibe. Beautiful!!!

Love the peyote back of the bezel!!

Your work is amazing here Christine! I can see why you couldn't wait for the reveal.

You have no idea how many times I watched the Outsiders growing up!!! It was an obsession. I had the hots for so many of those actors. Still do, especially Matt Dillon.

Swoon! What a great way to bezel a cab -- the chenille stitch looks lovely and so touchable...although after your "full frontal" description, I might need to bring some singles to slip into its peyote stitched backing (which was a really clever solution to back the cab)!
