Break From Tradition 5 Woman Hop : Come see our Spikes

Here we are!  Just a handful of us lucky ladies who are working with mega spikes Cynthia generously sent us.  Please go see what Cynthia, Therese, Bobbie, and Janet made.  I am darting over to their pages myself right now!

Therese (Therese's Treasures) http://theresestreasures59.blogspot.com/

Bobbie (Beadsong Jewelry) http://beadsong.blogspot.com/

Janet (Honey from the Bee) http://www.honeyfromthebee.com/

Cynthia (Antiquity Travelers) http://antiquitytravelers.blogspot.com/

The little hop was just what I needed to get some finished pieces out of the spikes.  I started working with them back in the winter when we first received them, then let them sit, undecided and unfinished.  The day Cynthia announced a little hop, I went right to work!  I need that kick sometimes.

First is Spike Choker, with ribbon, peacock pearls, seed beads, black ovals, spikes.  It looks great on Fleur!

Next is a necklace made with seed beads, labradorite, and the spikes.  It bounces around between the boobs and sometimes sits with the spike looking up at me and sometimes with it looking out at the person I am across from.  It likes to bop around :-)

This next one is rather stripped down.  Spikes, seeds, twins, silk thread.

The last one belongs on a WTFriday post...I am not sure it is quite there yet.  Maybe the proportions are wrong?  Comments?  I think maybe the hematite squares need to go.

So there are my spikes!  Thank you Cynthia, for your never-ending generosity :-D  The spikes were so much more challenging then I thought they would be, but they were fun!  That first necklace was the last one made and not much time or thought was put into it.  I think it is my favorite out of the bunch.  As always, thanks for visiting!
HAPPY SUMMER

WOW!!! You surprised me with that first one! Because I had see the focals in play (that awesome one that bounces around - LOVE that one) ... but was not expecting the choker! How did you do that? How did you get those spikes in those hoops ... and where did you find hoops that size .. LOL, I do absolutely love this. It is so edgy and funky I could totally see this worn with a long, black tank dress - perfection! and what a statement! Anne looked over my shoulder when I gasped and said "oh now that's cool!" ... there you have it, from the mouth of babes.

I think this one was a challenge for us all ... but so much fun to just play with beads and not get uptight about it. Because after all as one of my very good friends always says "they are just beads"

Thank you for playing along and for telling me to go for it when I originally saw the spikes because as you say "they are just beads"

Hi Christine,
Wow so many cool designs I love them all the choker is so beautiful I love the design. The Bop Around pendant necklace looks like a fun piece to wear and to fidget with. The double spike pendant is cool too and on that last piece I would not change a thing it is beautiful with the Howlite squares on point they mimic the pendant and give a little more weight to the design.

OMG! These are fantastic! I love all of them and I can't pick a favorite!! I love spikes that may be why I can't decide but you did a great job with them!

Okay - that choker is a keeper - ABSOLUTELY!! Fleur wears it wonderfully, but I bet it looks just as smashing on you!

"Bouncing around the boob"....hahaha - it really is a cool necklace!

WTF Friday post - I am having way too much fun reading everyone's post related to this hop! Personally, I think it looks great just the way it is - the spikes are a statement piece and the hematite reinforces its intent!

Wow - what a cool choker - super design! The longer necklaces are too fun and would be 'played' with if I was wearing them - touching them constantly I'm sure!! Love them all!

Those spikes are something. The first necklace where you can size the length is great! The boob bouncer with labradorite is my favorite. I might be tempted to see how it looked hanging from a bail instead of attaching it directly to the rope. Flash, sizzle and bounce!!!

Your first necklace is simply fun, playing with so many different genres at the same time. A black spike choker has to be goth, right? Not when you combine it with a soft green ribbon closure. Too fun!

But I think my favorite is the one you say bobs around a bit. Really pretty. As Therese said, it looks like it would be fun to wear.

Oh, my, it really IS like we were looking over each other's shoulder with the twin-pointed spike treatment! I love that you used only one color of spikes but ended up with such varied moods of final pieces. The mix of hard and soft in the choker is a great way to walk on the wild side (safely)! The labradorite piece is, I think, my favorite among the rest of them just because, I think, it also mixes that funk of the spikes with the elegance of the labradorite. As for the last piece, I agree with Therese - the shape of the squares is a nice counterpoint to the points of the spikes.

All in all, they are yummy fun -- terrific riffs on a theme!

I really like those focals where the spikes are butt to butt. I definitely pointed them that direction, but nothing ever rose up in my head. lol! I think the choker is my favorite too. That last necklace... From the photo it does look busy... I'm wondering if you made the back half of the necklace simply a cord or chain if that would lighten it up and highlight the focal and those beautiful squares?

Oh, neat-o!! Those spikes are super cool and your work with them is awesome. While they are all great, I think my favorite is the one with the labradorite. It's a beauty!
