Thursday's Thing*

Summer is here which means I won't be on the computer all that much.  I will do my best to post once a week, but even that might be too much for me.  Just the word "Summer"  conjures up childhood and carefree days.  It evokes the thoughts of long journeys and wide-eyed exploration.  It means never knowing where you might wake up in the morning because of the lack of schedule.  And it feels like that good weary waterlogged sensation from so many hours spent in the water.  There were several summers, after college,  that I worked out in the real world.  Those summers were tough.  We made the most of those weekends, though :-)  Then came this stay-at-home-Mom gig and Real Summer came flooding back into my life.  I enjoy every moment of this seemingly open-ended time of year.

So to kick off the down time, I am featuring a necklace I had no idea meant summer to me until I wrote all this just now.  I made it on Tuesday.  It is a spiral rope of greens and gold and purple.  I was sure it was going to be plain...no extras.  Then a bulb went off...Lampwork!  I looked through my stash and found several beads to go with it.  But I found that I could not commit to any of them.  Then I thought in an odd unsure voice, "Polymer?" And these Gypsy Trade Beads ~ from the hands of Erin Fickert-Rowland of Elysian Studios Art~ slid onto the thread and it was a very unexpected but truly welcome choice.  The word Gypsy and the colors of the meandering rope all seem Summer to me...with a slight hint of very early Fall, but let's not worry about that yet!

*Appreciate what you have.  Want for less...unless it is beads or music.

I like the way the polymer beads seem to have that thing where your eyes vibrate when looking at them. Know what I mean? Looks like a grab and wear all summer kind of piece. Beautiful!

Funny... Summer to me means staying inside the air conditioning, 'cause I cannot handle heat! :). cannot complain about today though, as the humidity is nice and low!

Beautiful necklace...I love beads...subtle striping of colors...so pretty!

Enjoy your summer lady!

Lovely necklace. It reminds me of the grapes growing on the vine.

I love the lazy days of summer too. I remember when I was younger phoning my mom or dad for permission to go to our outdoor swimming pool and riding there on our bicycles and having the best days. I always thought it would be great to be a teacher so you could have the summers off, well I am not a teacher but a bus driver so I get to have my summers off and spend them with my kids creating happy memories for them and me. Our summers are so short so this is precious time for us. Happy Summer vacation!!

Yes, to appreciating what you have! And sometimes, you have to sort through what you have (I'm cleaning the garage this weekend. Major accumulation in there!) in order to get to the gold. Purple and green = gold!

That would look great in autumn, too, you are so right.

After spending years working in buildings where the windows didn't open- the change of seasons goes by in a blip. It became something to drive through- snow, ice, a/c, heater, defogger, ... being able to spend some fullness of time not in the car, not scraping ice, and not in an office was precious time.

Hooray for long days, lemonade, and fireflies. Have the best summer, Chris.

I gave your blog an award, come by when you get the chance. It's easy summer reading- promise. ♥

Great necklace! I love the vibrant color polymer beads against the muted seed beads. I wish you a wonderful summer and tons of childhood-like fun! Being the in woods always brings back childhood memories for me. :)
